FieldScribe sells one of the products discussed here. This is a vendor-published comparison based on linked product documentation and our own tested workflow, not an independent ranking or a benchmark of every platform.
What HomeGauge currently charges
HomeGauge's official pricing page advertises $89/month after a 30-day free trial for its Desktop Report Writer with Companion app. Twelve monthly payments at that rate total $1,068 before taxes or other services. That calculation is not an advertised annual subscription price.
Older comparisons may describe separate HomeGauge desktop and web plans or quote broad annual estimates. The current sales page presents HomeGauge for the desktop workflow and Spectora for the cloud-based workflow. It also states that HomeGauge is now part of the Spectora family.
If you already have a HomeGauge license or subscription, check your own billing terms with the vendor. A current public offer does not establish what a legacy account pays.
What to test during the trial
The official trial page describes collecting field information with the Companion app and completing reports with the desktop writer. Test that handoff using your own device and a representative inspection.
- Bring one of your usual templates and check the component and comment workflow.
- Move photos and observations from the field app into the desktop report.
- Inspect the client-facing report, revised output and archival download.
- Confirm device requirements, additional users and any services outside the quoted plan.

The comparison is about scope as well as cost. FieldScribe is a focused report-drafting product. It does not replace a complete scheduling and customer-management platform.
When the Word review requirement changes the choice
If your engineer or reviewer needs an editable document in company letterhead, test that requirement explicitly. Ask each vendor for the exact export format and a file your reviewer can open; a polished PDF alone does not establish support for your Word template.
FieldScribe offers editable Word and company branding for $2.99 per saved report, in addition to the report purchase. Before changing an established workflow
Export your historical reports, retain the records required for your work and confirm access after cancellation. Do not assume that a template from one platform will import into another. Test a representative job before relying on the replacement for client delivery.
